Oral Thrush

Mouth yeast infection refers to thrush or yeast formation inside the soft mucosal membranes of the mouth extending to the throat which is primarily caused by the microorganism called Candida albicans. Even though Candida is a normally and naturally-occurring organism located in the mouths of many people, the number of the organisms are maintained at a relatively harmless level. However, the problem exists when the oral cavity chemistry changes consequently resulting to the rapid growth of the organism involved.

Oral Thrush Symptoms

One common symptom of the oral yeast infection is when painful sores in the throat and the mouth become very evident even though the pain is tolerable. Coupled with the painful sores is what is termed as thrush which is characteristically described as white to yellowish patches in the walls of the mouth and in the tongue. These spots are actually very noticeable. Apart from being noticeable, the patches cause burning sensation resulting to discomfort and an unpleasant feeling on the part of the person suffering from the condition. At times, the thrush can also bleed against any structure inside the mouth or it can also bleed with the foods one ingests. Obviously, the thrush is a very difficult condition to deal with.

Actions To Take

When a thrush appears inside the mouth, this should be the reason why a person would want to seek a healthcare expert’s advice. Definitely, something is already wrong with the immune system, therefore treatment options should be immediately asked. These treatment options come in the form of an adjusted lifestyle by

eating more nutritious foods and ditching alcohol and caffeine in the diet. Studies have also identified smoking as one culprit of thrush.

With the thrush, a doctor will be able to acknowledge that there may other underlying diseases that have contributed to the thrush. Thrush, for the most part, is but a side effect of a more serious illness.

Other options that should be looked at to curb the growth of thrush is to avoid foods and beverages that have sugar content. In addition, it is also important to avoid antibiotics when the situation does not exactly necessitate the use of these drugs. Foods that cause injury or trauma should also be avoided and these come in the form of popcorn, nuts, lozenges and crusts.

Ultimately, it is very important to maintain good personal hygiene. The mouth is a host or an entry way for several food particles that are not exactly clean; therefore, brushing frequently or every after meal should be done religiously. It is also necessary to sterilize the toothbrush using grain alcohol or iodine. Flossing after brushing is also advised.
